Biography
Rebecca Short has over a decade of experience in communications with a speciality in tough topics like climate change, transforming the energy markets, corporate responsibility and HIV/Aids response. In a freelance capacity she has undertaken assignments for major international NGOs and large businesses. She’s done reports and digital communications for property companies Investa and UK-based King Sturge, plus writing and outreach strategy work for NGOs like Greenpeace International, WWF Australia, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Aids Accountability International. She has done media and public engagement work with the Energy Efficiency Council and Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at the University of Technology Sydney.
From 2001-2005 she was the renewable energy communications manager for the NSW State Government’s ground-breaking Sustainable Energy Development Authority. In this role she launched projects like the NSW Wind Atlas and Solar Month to raise the profile of little-known energy options, before the current raft of state and national incentives. Her early career was started at Parsons Brinkerhoff, an international infrastructure group. Rebecca has a degree in ecology and more than ten years experience communicating with all levels of audiences including our elected representatives, people from industry and business, as well as ordinary householders and community members.

I’ve got an honours degree in Environmental Science (Thesis: Do environmental moulds kill frogs’ eggs?). But I don’t think you should need a degree to understand things like clean energy, waste reduction or emissions targets. So I’ve devoted my career to being a bridge between experts and non-experts.
